Former Contender series star Cornelius "K9" Bundrage is on the short list to be Miguel Cotto's March 12th opponent. The fight is tentatively scheduled to take place in Cotto's native Puerto Rico.
Earlier this week Bundrage told BoxingScene that he thinks he and Cotto stylistically match up perfectly and that a fight between the two would be similar to Sugar Ray Leonard versus Tommy Hearns.
BoxingScene spoke to K9 about other options for defending his IBF junior middleweight belt. I asked the Detroit native if he thought that Paul Williams and his team would view him as one of the easier options at 154 pounds and look to match the two fighters in order to get Williams a bounce back fight and a belt at the same time.
"I thought about that. All these promoters can't wait to throw their young guys in with me. They have a loss and they say let's throw our guy in with K9."
Bundrage knows a fight against Williams would give him a big payday but Bundrage prefers to face the biggest challenges out there. "I wouldn't mind that fight (against Paul Williams) but the thing about it is if I beat him they are going to say after what [Sergio] Martinez did to him he was never the same. That's why I prefer to fight guys coming off wins and not losses."
Top Rank and Miguel Cotto are expected to make their choice for Cotto's come
back fight shortly.
