Australia’s Justis Huni will fight Shaun Potgieter on the undercard of Jai Opetaia-Huseyin Cinkara on January 8.

Huni, 25, stopped Leandro Daniel Robutti in Brisbane on Thursday, and his team have responded quickly to feature him on the same promotion as the IBF cruiserweight title fight between Opetaia and his mandatory challenger at the Gold Coast Convention Centre in Queensland, Australia.

“I’m really looking forward to continuing my climb to the top of the division,” Huni said. “A busy fighter is a happy fighter, and this will be my second fight in a month.

“Shaun is a tough challenge. He’s a strong man with a good punch. I’ll need to be switched on and do what I do best. I’m looking forward to showing what I’ve been working on.

“I want to excite the fans. I’ve been enjoying knocking my opponents out lately, and I’m punching with bad intentions every time. People come to see action, and I’m ready to deliver.”

Potgieter, of South Africa, has won each of his two fights in 2024, and he said: “All I can say is I am not flying halfway around the world to come and lose. God is giving me everything I need for victory. I’ll be more than ready.”

Mick Francis, of Tasman Fighters and Huni’s promoter, added: “This bout will be all action. Both of these heavyweights don’t like going the distance. We think fight fans are going to enjoy the clash of these big men.”
