WBC junior welterweight champion Junior Witter (36-1, 21KOs) feels it's the perfect time for a British showdown with UK rival Ricky Hatton (43-1, 31KOs).

Witter, speaking with Sky Sports News , says Hatton needs to get back in the ring as soon as possible. Hatton was knocked out by Floyd Mayweather Jr. last weekend in Las Vegas, the first loss of his career. Witter has been undefeated since 2000, with his only loss, by decision, coming at the hands of Zab Judah. Since the loss, Witter has beaten a long string of contenders, including Lovermore N'dou, Vivian Harris and DeMarcus Corley. Witter has been chasing a fight with Hatton for the last few years, and the two fighters have traded insults in the media on several occasions.

"It is time for the British showdown to happen at the biggest venue, wherever that may be - London, Manchester or Newcastle," Witter said. "He (Hatton) is still top of the tree at light-welterweight. He needs to get back in the ring as soon as possible with a good win. It would be (a fight between) the best light-welterweights in the world."
