Promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank told ESTO that the performance of Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (37-0-1, 28KOs) on July 12 will help him decide on how fast the young fighter should be pushed. Chavez will be facing Matt "The Predator" Vanda (38-6, 21KOs) at the Palenque De La Expo in Sonora, Mexico.
Vanda is on the lower end of the junior middleweight division, but he is the most experienced opponent that Chavez has ever faced. He fought his last couple of bouts at middleweight and was previously scheduled to face John Duddy back in February. The biggest win on Vanda's resume is a close decision win over former champion Yori Boy Campas.
On the undercard, Ulises "Archie" Solís (26-1-1, 20KOs) defends his IBF light flyweight title against filipino Glenn Donaire. Hernán "Tyson" Márquez, (19-0, 16KOs) takes on Carlos Rodríguez, (21-4-1, 15KOs) for the WBC FECOMBOX flyweight title and unbeaten Koki Kameda (17-0, 11KOs) will appear.
