The super bantamweight world champion of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Julio Ceja (30-1, 27KOs), has confirmed that his team is working out the details for a planned rematch with countryman Hugo Ruiz (35-3, 31KOs). The information was also confirmed by Ruiz's promoter, Sampson Lewkowicz.
Ceja captured the interim-WBC title in a war of a fight, by coming off the floor in the third round to drop and stop Ruiz in the fifth at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on August 29th.
Earlier this week, Leo Santa Cruz officially vacated the WBC title and the sanctioning body elevated Ceja to the status of full champion.
Ceja revealed a tentative rematch date of March 26th in Los Angeles.
"I told [WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman] of my desire to have a long reign ... and in order to do so I must secure a repeat win over Hugo Ruiz," Ceja said.
