On June 13th Julian Williams (19-0-1) will return to the ring in Alabama against an opponent to be determined on the Deontay Wilder-Eric Molina undercard. The main event will be televised by Showtime along with the co-feature, Jose Pedraza-Andrey Klimov. Williams' fight will likely appear on SHO Extreme.
The undefeated prospect last fought in April when he won an unanimous decision against rugged veteran Joey Hernandez. Williams was satisfied with his performance which was his first against a left handed fighter.
"It was good. It got me some good rounds against a southpaw. I had never gone against a southpaw so it was definitely good to go 10 rounds. I knocked him down and could have stopped him. He was a crafty guy who came in shape. I thought it was a good learning experience for me," Williams told BoxingScene.com.
The Philadelphia native has been vocal about wanting to fight the top names in the super welterweight division. Williams adviser Al Haymon has a deep stable of 154 pound prospects such as Jermall and Jermell Charlo, Tony Harrison and Chris Pearson. Williams so far hasn't been able to get one of them in the ring with him but feels that sooner or later they will have to fight him.
"I don't know man. I think everyone is complacent with where they are at in their career and nobody wants to step up. They just want the big money fights instead of fighting the fights to get the big money fights, no what I mean? I had a rough time coming up and I am to the point where I need a big name to catapult myself to be a star. These guys are definitely going to have to step up and fight me. I am not going anywhere," said Williams before putting some of the division's veterans on notice.
"There are just a lot of guys in the division that aren't doing anything but taking up space. Guys like Ishe Smith and Austin Trout. Guys like that are just taking up space and need to fight somebody. I have been extremely vocal on my social media that I want to fight but those guys seem to turn their face the other face. What can I do?"
Williams said that the plan is for him to fight 4 times this year.
"I'm going to fight two more times after this fight," said the 25-year-old.
