Julian Williams is focused on his November 18th showdown against former champion Ishe Smith (29-8). He is so focused that he refuses to speculate on anything other than his fight against Smith.
So when asked what he wants to do after the Smith fight, he replied, "I haven't thought of that yet. Just Ishe Smith. You can ask me that on Saturday after I win the fight."
The 27-year-old Philadelphia, PA native knows that a win over Smith will put him back in the mix for an even bigger fight down the road. Even with Jermall Charlo and Demetrius Andrade moving up to the middleweight weight division, there are still a lot of talented fighters who remain at 154 pounds.
"I think it is still a great division. It is very very deep. You got a lot of guys and I think I match up good with any of those guys," Williams explained.
Williams has fought in Las Vegas on various occasions but this time it will be a little bit different in that Smith is a Las Vegas native.
Smith has had a lot of success in Las Vegas, but has also suffered two losses. One of the losses was a majority decision loss to Vanes Martirosyan and the other was a split decision loss to Carlos Molina. Most ringside observers had Smith losing both of those fights decisively.
Williams said that he didn't have any say as to where the fight takes place but is confident that his performance will give the judges no choice but to name him the winner.
"I have no choice but like I said I'm not worried about it. He's lost in Vegas a number of times. He isn't undefeated there. He lost to Vanes Martirosyan. He lost to Carlos Molina there," Williams told BoxingScene.com.
"I can't control the integrity of the judge. All I can do is hope for the best. I have a lot of confidence in the Nevada Commission. They will appoint the right judges and they will make the right decisions and I will let my fists persuade them."
