Former WBA world bantamweight champion Julian Solis was shot on Sunday in a suburb of San Juan, which is located in the capital of his own country, Puerto Rico, and is now in recovery and out of danger in a local hospital. According to Puerto Rican police, Solis, 53, was wounded by several bullets fired by unidentified individuals after an argument.

Julian Solis was the world champion in the bantamweight division, winning the WBA title in 1980 when he defeating Jorge Lujan of Panama on 15-round split decision. He then lost the belt in his first defense against Jeff Chandler, and again tried to be crowned, without success, in July 1981.
