Sources close to the situation have advised BoxingScene.com that super featherweight contender Rocky Juarez (29-10-1, 21KOs) never verbally agreed to face Sergio "Yeyo" Thompson (26-2, 24KOs) on May 18th at the Hotel Grand Oasis in Cancun, Mexico. The fight was going to be the co-feature to Shane Mosley vs. Pablo Cesar Cano.
We reported earlier that Juarez was not going to fight Thompson on card.
From what BoxingScene was told, Juarez was willing to face Thompson when the fight was being discussed as a Fox Deportes headliner on May 3rd in Las Vegas.
After Mosley-Cano was finalized, promoter Pepe Gomez of Cancun Boxing wanted to switch the fight to the Mosley-Cano card.
Juarez, who was being offered $15,000 for the fight, wanted a bump of $25,000 to face Thompson on his home soil. The two sides were unable to reach a financial agreement and Thompson will now face a new opponent.
