The much-discussed all-Puerto Rico confrontation between former world champions Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez and Wilfredo 'Papito' Vazquez Jr. (23-3-1, 19KOs) is still alive and could be held on August 25, according to promoter Peter Rivera, vice president of PR Best Boxing Promotions.
The two boxers have traded words several times over the years. First, two-division world champion Juanma (33-3 30 KO's) will Daniel Ponce de Leon (45-5, 35 KO's) in a rematch on March 15th in Bayamon, Puerto Rico.
"It's something that everyone talks about and I have no problems doing it. He (Lopez) has a commitment right now on March 15 and then he can be available to do it. Win or lose [we can do that fight]. If people want to see that fight, we will do it. I like the month August [for that fight] because that's a month where we seldom compete with events in the United States," Rivera said.
