WBO featherweight champion Juan "Juanma" Lopez was in attendance for Top Rank Live's fight between Las Vegan Diego Magdaleno and Marcos Jimenez, who is a Dominican that trains in Puerto Rico. Magdaleno stopped Jimenez after 5 rounds at the Texas Station Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.
Lopez is scheduled to make a title defense versus former IBF champion Orlando Salito on April 16th in Puerto Rico. Juanma revealed his post-Salido fight plans to BoxingScene. "We want to get 3 fights in this year. We are going to fight Marquez in a rematch in July."
The budding Puerto Rican star said while he preferred to face Marquez in Puerto Rico he was ready to face him anywhere. The first fight took place in Las Vegas. "Of course I would love to fight him in Puerto Rico but it doesn't matter to me. I am willing to fight him anywhere."
When asked if that meant we can expect an end of the year unification showdown with IBF/WBA featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa, Juanma said, "Well I would love to fight him in the fall. Let's see what the promoters say. If it doesn't happen this year I am sure it will happen in 2012."
