The Professional Boxing Commission of Puerto Rico has issued a temporary suspension on former two division champion Juan Manuel Lopez, and ordered the fighter to appear for a hearing on March 26th, 10 am. Juanma will appear before Alberto Arroyo, a hearing officer, lawyer and commissioner - who was appointed by the President of the PR Commission, Dommys Delgado.
"We made a determination to issue a temporary suspension and scheduled a hearing for the 26th at 10 am, where [Juanma] must show cause as to why he should not be punished. Arroyo will give us a report [on the hearing] and we expect to have everything resolved on Tuesday or Wednesday," Delgado said.
Lopez is now under two temporary suspensions. He was also suspended by the World Boxing Organization (WBO), who gave him until Friday (today) to demonstrate beyond a reasonable doubt why he shouldn't remain suspended.
The two suspensions stem from Juanma's televised post-fight interview that followed last Saturday's TKO defeat to Mexico's Orlando Salido. After suffering the loss, Juanma made several allegations against the referee Roberto Ramirez Sr., calling him a "gambler" and alluding that Ramirez stopped the fight in connection to bet.
Lopez is planning a press conference on Monday and/or Tuesday to apologize to Ramirez.
