Former four division world champion Juan Manuel "Dinamita" Marquez has begun sparring for a possible return to the ring for a farewell fight or a crack at the welterweight title. Marquez revealed that on Friday he held his first sparring session since May of 2014. There were five rounds completed at the Romanza Gym in Mexico City against Alejandro Barrera. He noted that his knee has given him problems.

Marquez, 41-years-old, has been out of the ring since May 2014 after winning a twelve round unanimous decision over Mike Alvarado at The Forum in Los Angeles, California. Marquez's return continues to be pushed back due to an ongoing knee injury.

He was happy with the first sparring session and plans to continue working before making a decision on the future of his career.

"I want to do sparring three times a week for three weeks to know what decision to take," Marquez told ESPN Deportes.
