According to longtime trainer Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain, former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez, 41-years-old, will announce his retirement in the near future.

Marquez (56-7-1, 40KOs) has been dealing with an injured right knee for the last year. The injury first came about in early 2014 and he still went forward with a planned fight against Mike Alvarado last May, which the Mexican veteran won with a wide twelve round unanimous decision. That was the last time Marquez entered the ring.

As the months continued, the injury to his knee became worse and he was forced to push back a planned return last fall.

Nacho indicates that his fighter is still dealing with the issue and there appears to be no relief in sight.

"Juan Manuel still has an issue with his knee and I feel that in a few days he will announce his retirement. The way that Juan Manuel is dedicated to boxing and the way he performs - he has to be 100%. He's been in the gym for the last eleven to twelve days, running around and seeing what he can do - and the knee seems to be bothering him a lot. I feel that with the type of dedication that Marquez has, he won't fight again if he's not 100%," Nacho told BoxingScene.com.
