Former four division world champion Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7-1, 40KOs) is still determining whether or not he plans to fight again. Marquez turns 41-years-old on August 23rd. Marquez fought once in 2012 and 2013, and was last in the ring in May where he won a twelve round decision over Mike Alvarado. If Marquez does continue to fight, his trainer Nacho Beristain would like to see him face the International Boxing Federation welterweight champion, Shawn Porter.
"Before thinking about an opponent, first I have to decide whether we will continue, so we will then see what comes. If we are going to continue, then we have to study the opponents and see what is best for us," Marquez said. "Such a decision must be taken with due time, whatever the choice I have to think it over really well...it's not a matter of one or two months, it takes some time. [When the time comes] it will be very hard to say that I'm retiring," Marquez said.
The Mexican veteran says there is a possibility that he may not fight again until early 2015, but he wants to fight again before the year is over.
