Zanfer Promotions and Hall of Fame trainer Ignacio "Nacho" Beristain are waiting on news regarding the future four-time Mexican champion Juan Manuel Marquez (56-7, 40KOs), who has not been in the ring since May 2014.
In his last ring appearance, Marquez won a twelve round unanimous decision over former junior welterweight champion Mike Alvaredo.
Marquez has stated on several occasions that he wants to have at least one more fight before ending his career. Now being 43-years-old, time is quickly running out for Marquez to have one more fight.
Juan Carlos Torres, an executive with Zanfer, indicated that they are simply waiting for what Márquez to make a decision. If he does want to continue his career, there is a good chance that he can return at the Arena Ciudad de Mexico, the Monterrey Arena or even on American soil.
"In this situation, the only person who will make the decision regarding his return is Márquez himself, and surely he will make the best decision. Memo Heredia let us know that [Marquez] wants to return, so let's just wait for a formal announcement to find out how we can help," said Torres to ESPN Deportes.
Nacho would rather see Marquez call time on his career, but he will support his best student regardless of the path he chooses.
"I'd say it's taking too long to make an official announcement about what he will do," Nacho said. "Juan is a special case because of the last few fights that he did and once he starts training he begins to feel and look good, because he is a super fighter, but it's been two and a half years already [since he last fought]. Although I will not be the one to tell him what to do, I will not say anything or pressure him."
