As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, Juan Francisco Estrada officially vacated his World Boxing Organization and World Boxing Association flyweight titles. Estrada has been dealing with a bad hand injury which has kept him on the shelf since September 2015.
Estrada has now officially moved up to super flyweight, and his return has been officially announced for October 8th in his native Puerto Penasco against a fighter from Philippines, Raymond Tabugon, and Azteca 7, La Casa del Boxeo, will broadcast to everyone in Mexico.
At a press conference to announced the fight, Estrada (33-2, 24 KOs) explained that he's fully recovered from the injury to his right hand that sidelined him from fighting over a year. The bout will be at the Ballpark Francisco Leon Garcia with Tabugon (18-5-1, 8 KOs) over ten rounds at super flyweight as part of a Zanfer Promotions event.
The 26-year-old Estrada is gunning for a rematch with Roman "Chocolatito" Gonzalez, who won a war over Estrada in 2012 at junior flyweight. Gonzalez recently made the jump to super flyweight and captured the WBC title from Carlos Cuadras two weeks go in Los Angeles.
"First I have to win the 8th of October. Everyone knows that Filipinos come to die in the line of fire and Tabugon has nothing to lose and everything to win - but I am well prepared and motivated to perform in front of my people. I have no doubts there will be a show on stage, and that I will win and analyze with my team and my promoter Zanfer on what fights I want at super flyweight, including Chocolatito, Naoya Inoue, Nica Conception or Cuadras," Estrada said.
"I'm looking for big fights and I won't have any problems going up to 115 pounds. I made my debut at bantamweight and this a good division for me. I feel stronger, I have trained very well since I've been away."
