Former world champion Juan Francisco 'Gallo' Estrada and the interim super featherweight champion of the World Boxing Organization, Miguel 'Scorpion' Berchelt, will not return by the end of the year as planned, according to ESPN Deportes.
Both fighters have had their planned fights pushed back, likely to the first two months of 2017.
Estrada (34-2, 24 KO) had a long sting of inactivity and snapped his layoff with a return on October 8 in his native Puerto Penasco, Sonora - making his super flyweight debut against Raymond Tabugon. Prior to winning that fight, he vacated his WBA and WBO flyweight world titles.
Estrada had discussed the possibility of coming back in December, but he suffered a minor hand injury in the last contest. Given that his hand was the issue that kept him out of the ring since last year, he wants to ensure there are no further issues.
He's now taking about coming back in January or February against WBA world champion Luis Concepcion - if Concepcion is able to overcome a very tough defense against Khalid Yafai in England on the 10th of December.
Berchelt (30-1, 27 KO) was looking to make his first defense of the WBO interim-world title that he captured in July. He was looking to have a fight with Orlando Cruz of Puerto Rico and their two camps were discussing the idea of that fight, but Cruz ultimately decided to go up to 135-pounds to face WBO lightweight world champion Terry Flanagan this coming Saturday in Wales. When Cruz made his decision, there wasn't enough time to secure another suitable opponent.
