Zanfer Promotions CEO Fernando Beltran highlighted the outstanding performance of Juan Francisco 'Gallo' Estrada, who last Friday finally achieved his dream by winning a twelve round unanimous decision over Srisaket Sor Rungvisai to capture the super flyweight championship of the World Boxing Council.
According to Beltran, Estrada may defend his title in Mexico City in three or four months.
"It was a tremendous performance that Estrada gave to boxing, not just the fans of Mexico," said Beltran to ESPN Deportes. "We are extremely happy for his achievement and perhaps we can make the first defense in the month of July or August in Mexico City. First he will take a rest, let his hands recovers and then he'll tells us."
After beating Rungvisai by unanimous decision, Estrada finally got his third divisional world championship.
However, he hurt his hands very early in the fight and his recovery will be a factor on whether or not he can make the defense.
Estrada, who arrived as a hero in his native Sonora, visited the local governor, Claudia Pavlovich, on Monday, and handed him a pair of gloves signed. He was with his head trainer, Alfredo Caballero. A day before, the champion had received a caravan as a gift.
The issue of a future opponent has not been touched, but nobody is being ruled out, said Beltrán, mainly because they want to elevate Estrada to be one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the world; However, that will have to be discussed by 'Gallo' with his team - consisting of Caballero and manager Juan Hernández.
Estrada added his name to the list of current world champions that Mexico currently has - which includes fighters like Rey Vargas, Emanuel Navarrete, Oscar Valdez, Leo Santa Cruz, Miguel Berchelt, Jaime Munguía, Saúl Álvarez and Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramírez.
