The "Black Panther" Juan Carlos Gomez (49-3, 37KOs) was successfully operated on by Dr. Andreas Werner. The were several hours of surgery on the left shoulder and everything went well, but a second injury was discovered during the procedure. In addition to the pre-diagnosed torn tendon in his left shoulder, the doctor found a torn articular lip.
On September 24, Gomez dropped an upset ten round split decision to Darnell Wilson. Gomez complained of shoulder pain, before and after the fight, and the injury was discovered. Universum fired his trainer for hiding the injury. Gomez will be out of action until some time next year.
Dr. Werner said - This double injury is going to make it impossible to box for several months."
