A press conference was held in Brakpan, South Africa to announce the Nkosinathi Joyi's defense of the IBF junior flyweight title against Japan's Katsunari Takayama on January 29 in Carnival City. Everything was going smooth until two local boxers who are scheduled to fight on the undercard, Daniel "Billy the Kid" Bruwer and Ruben Groenewald, raised the tempo of the media event.

They couldn't wait until the day of the fight. The two bitter rivals began to exchange words and the situation escalated to the point of an all-brawl with punches being exchanged. Some of those present were quick to run for cover, but order was restored soon after the fists began flying.
