Former two-time heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua was shaking his head at the recent news that his domestic rival, WBC world champion Tyson Fury, signed an agreement to face former UFC heavyweight king Francis Ngannou.
The fight will take place on October 28th in Saudi Arabia.
Fury and Joshua have been in discussions several times for a potential fight, but for one reason or another the contest never came off.
A few weeks ago, the 'Gypsy King' reached out to Joshua for a potential fall fight - but Joshua elected to move forward with his scheduled plans - which include the August 12th rematch with Dillian Whyte.
Fury had also tried to secure an undisputed fight with WBO, IBF, IBO, WBA champion Oleksandr Usyk - but the two sides were unable to reach an agreement on the financial terms for the rematch. Usyk is now scheduled to make a mandatory defense against WBA 'regular' champion Daniel Dubois next month in Poland.
After most of his big money options ran dry, Fury decided to finalize a crossover boxing match with Ngannou, who will make his professional debut in boxing. The contest will be fought under traditional boxing rules, and Fury's title will not be at stake.
Joshua was hoping to see Fury-Usyk - not Fury-Ngannou.
"[I have] three thoughts. ‘One – I shouldn’t give a f---, it’s none of my business. It has no business concerning me. It pays me no business. Number two – Why? He should’ve been fighting for the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world. Straight up. That’s nonsense. His fault," Joshua told IFL TV.
"Three – If we’re acknowledging his business, good luck to the man. Do your thing. If it’s right for him, what’s it got to do with me? That’s my three views on it."
