IBF heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua (18-0, 18 KOs) believes "Father Time has caught up with Wladimir Klitschko" as they are days away from their highly anticipated showdown on Saturday night.
The fight will headline a huge event where 90,000 fans are expected to pack Wembley Stadium in London. Sky Sports Box Office, HBO and Showtime will all carry the biggest heavyweight clash in years.
Klitschko, 41, is returning for the first time since losing a stunning twelve round unanimous decision to Tyson Fury in Germany in November 2015. It was Klitschko's first loss in over a decade.
Klitschko will have the best opportunity possible to reclaim his throne, by taking on the rising young lion of the division. Besides Joshua's IBF title, the vacant IBO and WBA world titles will be at stake.
"He has to pass on the baton. I do hear it a lot, he's too old, he's faded. But then I try and flip it. Even if he is too old, which I think he is, he's in a good place mentally and that's a dangerous fighter. Timing is everything and maybe Father Time has caught up with the former champ," Joshua told BBC Radio.
Klitschko used Joshua as a sparring partner in 2014, when the former division ruler was getting ready for a mandatory defense against Kubrat Pulev.
Joshua makes it clear that he's not the same fighter that sparred with Klitschko in the ring.
"I am a completely different person now. I'm at a place now where he's obsessed with beating me and I'm confident," Joshua said. "I'm not a gym fighter. If I'm depending on his age and he's depending on the sparring from years ago then he will definitely get it wrong. He's got to come across a young lion who studies the game.
"Whatever type of fight he wants to fight, if it goes down the route of us two swinging until the cows come home, I don't think I will back out. My obligation first and foremost is to make him look like a novice."
