According to the WBA's latest rankings, former IBF champion Joshua Clottey is the number one contender to the WBA welterweight title. Based on those rankings, Clottey says that a title shot against Shane Mosley is coming in the near future. Is Clottey really the mandatory to Mosley? Technically Mosley is the WBA's "super" champion, while Vyacheslav Senchenko is the actual "regular" champion. There is no reason or possible explanation for two welterweight champions. The WBA just loves to collect those sanctioning fees. It's up for debate on which of the champions will receive an order from the WBA to fight Clottey or face being stripped.
Clottey is under the impression that his shot will come against Mosley. He says Mosley has avoided him in the past but the running is over. Clottey told the paper that his manager, Vinny Scolpino, is planning to meet with Top Rank to begin the process of trying to make a fight with Mosley.
“I don’t think Shane (Mosley) can runaway this time since I am the first contender to the title,” Clottey told Graphic Sports in an interview. “He has avoided me over the years, but I think this is the right time for us to fight because there cannot be any excuses from anybody anymore."
