Joshua Clottey (32-2, 19KOs) in a conversation with New Ghana , claims that IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron (28-1, 26KOs) and WBO champ Paul Williams (33-0, 24KOs) have both turned him down for potential fights.

Cintron is scheduled to defend his title against Jesse Feliciano (15-5-3) on the November 23 undercard to Fernando Vargas-Ricardo Mayorga. There is said to be ongoing talks of Cintron and Williams coming together for a unification showdown in February.

Clottey seems to have his sights set on Cintron, and plans to fight his way to a mandatory position in order to force the fight.

“Cintron is also scared of me and because of this he refused to sign the contract which is the legal document binding him to the fight. He wants to avoid me probably because he knows I will pose a bigger threat than he expects,” Clottey said. “I have to fight an eliminator and become the number-one contender and then Cintron will have to fight me at all cost.

Top Rank is trying to put together a fight between Clottey and undefeated Shamone Alvarez (19-0, 11KOs) in a possible IBF eliminator to grab the vacant number-one position. Alvarez is currently ranked at ten.
