Despite several members of the media in accord that junior welterweight Josesito Lopez had pulled off the upset on last night’s “Star Power” undercard, undefeated Jessie Vargas took a split decision on the scorecards.

“Close, tough fight. Could have gone either way,” the classy Ramirez said.

When asked about whether he thought Patricia Morse Jarman’s 96-93 verdict for Vargas was questionable, Ramirez agreed, but offered a caveat.

“Yeah, but Lopez chases way too much and didn't close distance properly even though I was begging for him to cut [off] the ring,” he said.

Many have already clamored for a rematch between the two 140-pounders, but Ramirez ruled out its likelihood.

“[I] could ask for a rematch, but we’re not going to get one.  It’s just the nature of the business.  It was a really good fight though!” he exclaimed.
