Big puncher Jose 'Chon' Zepeda of Mexico has announced the hiring of manager Cameron Dunkin and hopes that this career move will land him a position on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao's upcoming challenge of WBO welterweight world champion Jessie Vargas, which takes place on November 5 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.
Dunkin is the manager of Vargas, Terence Crawford, Nonito Donaire, Brandon Rios and several other top names and contenders.
The Zanfer Promotions fighter revealed that for now he has no date for his next fight, as he waits to get word on whether or not he will land on the Pacquiao-Vargas card.
The deal with Dunkin was completed a few weeks ago, according to the fighter who is 27 years old and has a professional record of 25-1 and 21 knockouts.
"We did it about three or four weeks ago. That's when we signed with Cameron Dunkin. A friend told me about it, and the next day they called me, they told me it would be a pleasure to work with me. We set up a meeting and we signed," Zepeda told ESPN Deportes.
"I used to have a manager that honestly was not that much into boxing, and frankly neither I nor my team know a lot of the business side, but this man (Dunkin) knows everything, a lot of people know him. He told me things that he was capable of doing and I'm very interest to see what he does."
"I mentioned to Dunkin that date of November 5, with Vargas-Pacquiao. He said that he is trying to get me on that date."
Zepeda has picked up two wins since losing to WBO lightweight champion Terry Flanagan last July in Manchester. Zepeda dislocated his left shoulder and was unable to fight beyond the second round. He knocked out Ammeth Diaz in one round in January of this year and then came back in April to win a ten round decision over Pedro Navarrette.
