WBC president Jose Sulaiman gave his thoughts on Shane Mosley's ninth-round knockout of Antonio Margarito from last Saturday night in Los Angeles. He says Margarito took a real beating in the fight, took a lot of head shots and should go through a lot of exams to make sure his health is in order before returning to the ring.
"He should go through some thorough neurological exams, in a hospital that has the best technology and resources. I don't know how if he was affected by any of the punches," Sulaiman told ESTO. "The fight surprised me too. Mosley gave the best fight of his life."
He said Mosley had the perfect plan for Margarito and doesn't think the Tijuana Tornado can deal with a ring technician.
"Mosley was excellent. He attached and attacked. The problem is that Margarito can't beat opponents with a technical offense in the ring. The same thing happened to him when he faced Paul Williams. Mosley is a great fighter and his tactics were excellent. Margarito did not win a single round. I know a judge gave him two rounds, but I don't know what fight he was watching."
Sulaiman was a bit critical about the ref and Margarito's corner for allowing the fight to go for too long.
"There was a lack of common sense. The referee should also be criticized. I am really bothered by the decision of Margarito's team [to let him come out for the ninth round], although he said that he wanted to continue fighting."
