Explosive fighter Jose "Sugar" Salgado stopped Everardo Morales to capture the super flyweight championship of the North American Boxing Federation (NABF) at the Interactive Museum in Xalapa, Veracruz. The card was put together by Canelo Promotions and Golden Boy Promotions.
Salgado (24-1, 21 KOs) showed his strength from the beginning of the heated action. He ripped open the corner of the right eye of Morales (34-16-2, 23 KOs). Salgado himself was cut on the right eyelid in the first minute of the third round. The pressure continued with Salgado stunning Morales and trapping him in the corner to unleash a series of hard combinations. The referee jumped in to save Morales at 2:04 of the third.
In other action, undefeated Marco Antonio Peribán, a rising super middleweight, stopped Alfredo Mejia at 1:45 of the first after landing a hook to the body. Mejia went down for the count.
