Unbeaten prospect Jose Ramirez will fight in his home region for the first time as a pro when he headlines a UniMás-televised card at the Golden Eagle Arena in Lemoore, Calif., on Nov. 9.
Ramirez (5-0, 4 KOs), a 2012 U.S. Olympian who hails from the nearby Central Valley city of Avenal, informed BoxingScene.com that the card will be titled “Fight for Water” to bring attention to the agricultural area’s dependence on water to spur the local economy.
“I want to bring excitement to the Central Valley,” said Ramirez, who is also a member of the influential Latino Water Coalition. “Fighting in my backyard is a big deal because it allows my friends and family to be a part of it and go to the fight."
Ramirez, who must first get by Daniel Calzada (8-8-2, 2 KOs) on the Sept. 28 Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.-Brian Vera undercard in Carson, Calif., will also be unveiling his JCR Entertainment promotional company for the November show. Top Rank will promote the card alongside JCR Entertainment, according to Ramirez’s agent, Rick Mirigian.
"I’m grateful Top Rank delivered on their promise to allow me to start my company and help promote this show,” Ramirez added.
Tickets will go on sale Sept. 16 and range from $20 to $125.
