Dealt a tough test in his recent 10-round win over Manuel Perez, unbeaten prospect Jose Ramirez and his team have already left the performance in the past in quickly moving towards the future.
The 23-year old super lightweight from Avenal, Calif. will return home for his next fight, which will take place July 9 at Tachi Palace Hotel & Casino in Lemoore, Calif. News of Ramirez' next fight was announced by his manager Rick Mirigian.
"Proud to announce that coming off HBO PPV this Saturday night live to millions of people, Juan Carlos Ramirez will (headline) and co-promote a special fight that will take place (at) Tachi Palace that will be nationally televised and limited to just 2,000 people (in attendance)," Mirigian announced on Sunday.
An opponent has yet to be named for the event, which will air live on Unimas as part of the network's Solo Boxeo series. Ramirez' local company, JCR Entertainment will co-promote the event with Top Rank, Ramirez' primary promoter.
The announcement comes less than a full day after Ramirez (17-0, 12KOs) overcame a stiff challenge from Perez on Saturday evening at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The bout marked the first 10-round affair for Ramirez as well as his debut on an HBO Pay-Per-View telecast, coming in supporting capacity to Manny Pacquiao's unanimous decision win over Timothy Bradley to break the tie in their three-fight series.
Ramirez is a proven draw in his home region, drawing crowds of 10,000 to the Selland Arena in Fresno. The rising prospect was a member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic boxing team and has put his rising popularity to good use, serving as a leading activist for the California Latino Water Coalition.
Several of his home-based events are geared towards raising money - and awareness - to the issue, with the upcoming July 9 show continuing that proud cause.
"This show will obviously sell out fast and I will be posting the on-sale date (for tickets) and what fighters we will have from the #559 (area code for that region) featured on this card," notes Mirigian. "Tachi Palace has been a long time sponsor and supporter of Jose Ramirez and it was important for him to fight there and to show his respect back!"
