Jose 'Sniper' Pedraza hopes to secure the opportunity to fight for a third championship belt, but he could have to wait a while amid the pandemic and the busy schedule in the junior welterweight division.

The outlook for the fighter, whose dream is to join the group of Puerto Rican fighters with championships in three divisions or more, points towards a preparatory fight, perhaps in December.

“Top Rank hasn't spoken to me directly, but it was said before that it would be like a mini-tournament for a title fight. But Taylor fights this Saturday to later unify his titles," Pedraza explained to Joel Rivera.

Pedraza was referring to the mandatory defense that will be held this Saturday in London, where World Boxing Association (WBA) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF) 140-pound champion Josh Taylor will expose his crowns against Apinun Khongsong (16-0, 13 KO's).

A victory for Taylor would open the door to a unification match against Jose Ramírez (26-0, 17 KO's), who holds the titles of the World Boxing Council (WBC) and the World Boxing Organization (WBO).

According to Pedraza, what is rumored is that the winner of that Taylor-Ramirez match could move up to 147 pounds to challenge WBO welterweight champion Terence 'Bud' Crawford (36-0, 27 KO's), which in turn would vacate all four titles at 140.

“I have to see what happens. There are many things that are being discussed,” said Pedraza.

“I had a fight in July and now another in September. A little more than two months passed, and it would be perfect to close the year with a third fight in December, which would go down very well, because I would rest for three months,” Pedraza said.

"I would definitely like to be a part of the history of boxing in Puerto Rico and have my name embodied there. My main goal is to retire healthy, but this [goal of three divisional world titles] is one that I have had for a long time."
