Flyweight Jose Calderon is ready to take the next step up in his young career. Facing a legit contender will be a difficult test.

Calderon will face Yudel Reyes at a catchweight of 50 kilograms (110.23 pounds) tonight at the Circulo Mercantil Mutualista in Monterrey, Mexico. The fight will headline an eight-bout card that will stream live on the Warriors Boxing MX Facebook Live page (8:30 p.m. ET/ 5:30 p.m. PT). The Facebook Live page for Warriors Boxing MX is actually WarriosBoxingMX.

The 19-year-old Calderon (6-1, 2 knockouts), who resides in the boxing hotbed of Guadalajara, Mexico, last fought on February 4, defeating Javier Rodriguez by unanimous decision. The win over Rodriguez took place only 11 weeks after Calderon defeated Jose Francisco Ortiz by decision.

Calderon’s only blemish was a close unanimous decision loss to once-beaten Gustavo Perez Alvarez on September 10.

Having sparred top prospects in Guadalajara, Calderon believes he is ready to face someone the likes of Reyes, who will be fighting in his hometown of Monterrey. Tonight will mark Calderon’s first eight-round fight of his career.

Calderon also believes he is in great shape and appreciates the support in and out of the ring. He is managed by former pro fighter Adam Gonzalez and trains at Ponys Gym in Guadalajara.

Reyes (15-2, 5 KOs) will be a significant step up in opposition for Calderon.

In his last bout on January 28, Reyes lost by knockout to unbeaten prospect Oscar Collazo of Puerto Rico. Reyes was dropped twice before the fight ended in the fifth round. The clash against Collazo was a WBO world strawweight title eliminator.

Prior to the loss to Collazo, Reyes had won his previous three bouts.

Junior bantamweight Eliud De los Santos (16-6, 10 KOs), who also resides in Monterrey, will return from a five-year layoff to face journeyman Jose Martinez Andrade (10-27-1, 4 KOs) of Tampico, Mexico.
