Bantamweight Jose Andres Teran earned a fifth-round technical knockout over veteran Luis Guzman on Saturday night in Metepec, Mexico.

Teran, 25, started the fight patiently as the 29-year-old Guzman pressed forward in the opening round. With 10 seconds left in the frame, Teran landed a left hook that countered a wild punch from Guzman and sent him to the canvas.

Despite the knockdown, Guzman relentlessly pushed forward in the second round, even as Teran countered his aggression. Teran was landing the cleaner punches, but Guzman’s pressure was keeping Teran on the ropes in the third round and making the fight close.

Teran, landing clean counterpunches, began to separate from Guzman in the fourth round. This would lead to the eventual stoppage, as a left hook by Teran grazed and dazed Guzman in the fifth. Teran followed by landing two more left hooks, sending Guzman to the canvas, where he was unable to beat the referee’s count.

Mexico’s Teran is now 18-2 (13 KOs) and riding a 10-fight win streak. Guzman, of Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico, fell to 12-7 (7 KOs) and was knocked out for the third time in his career.
