The last time Ventura County fight fans enjoyed professional boxing live was almost five years ago.

Since then, fans have traveled to Los Angeles, the Chumash Casino Resort in Santa Ynez, or even Las Vegas to satisfy their boxing fix.

Fans will get to a chance to see professional boxing in person when it returns to county on Saturday, Feb. 25, as El Dorado Entertainment presents a seven-bout card at Santa Paula Community Golf Course (formerly known as Ozzie Osborn's Golf Course).

In the main event, former super bantamweight contender and Oxnard resident Jose Aguiniga will take on Juan Ruiz in an eight-round featherweight bout.

It will be the first fight for Aguiniga in almost five years when he won an eight-round majority decision over Joe Morales.

Aguiniga (31-0, 14 KOs) was on the cusp of fighting for a world title or a big-money bout. However, Aguiniga had problems making weight and had to work in more stable-paying jobs to support his growing family.

During his time away from the ring, the 2000 Channel Islands High graduate played soccer in the local recreational leagues of Oxnard. The itch to return to the ring hit him last year, when he watched fellow Ventura County residents Sergio Martinez, Brandon Rios, and Victor Ortiz on television.

Aguiniga is working out at Knuckleheadz Gym in Ventura, the same place where Ortiz, the Ventura resident and former WBC welterweight champion, trains.

Aguiniga's opponent, Ruiz (23-8, 7 KOs), has lost six out of his last seven fights. Ruiz, from Santa Clarita, lost a close six-round majority decision against Allan Tanada last November.

Ruiz has beaten former world champions Wayne McCullough and Cristobal Cruz.

In the co-feature bout, lightweight David Rodela of Oxnard will take on hard-hitting Manuel Bocanegra in an eight-round fight.

In his last bout in September, Rodela (15-5-3, 6 KOs) was knocked out in the fifth round by unbeaten Luis Ramos Jr. In April, Rodela lost a six-round unanimous decision to Lonnie Smith in Reno, Nev.

Rodela gained national notoriety for being one of Manny Pacquiao's sparring partners when the Filipino fighter prepared for his bout against Juan Manuel Marquez last November.

Bocanegra (7-9-1, 5 KOs), from Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, has not fought in three years after he was knocked out in the third round by current IBF lightweight champion Miguel Vazquez.

However, Bocanegra scored an impressive and shocking seventh-round technical knockout over former world title challenger Daniel Attah back in May 2003.

In other bouts:

Hugo Centeno (11-0, 6 KOs) of Oxnard will take on Anaheim's Roderick Grajeda (6-6-2, 3 KOs) in a six-round super welterweight bout. The 2009 Oxnard High graduate has won his last five bouts by decision after winning his first six bouts by first-round knockouts.

In a battle of unbeaten super middleweights, Oxnard's Rogelio Romo (4-0-2, KO) will take on Thomas Turner (1-0) in a four-round bout. Romo, who formerly went by Rogelio Vargas, is the half-brother of former world champion and Oxnard native Fernando Vargas.

Lightweight Robert Ortiz (7-4-1, 3 KOs) of Simi Valley will fight Manuel Del Cid (4-8, KO) of Los Angeles in four-round bout.

Indian Banuelos of Santa Paula will make his professional debut in his hometown as he takes on Jose Garcia (0-5) of Bakersfield in a four-round super bantamweight bout.

Nineteen-year-old Abraham Morales of Oxnard will also make his professional debut as he takes on Edgar Flores (0-4) of Santa Ana in a four-round super bantamweight bout.
