The old saying goes "there is no such thing as a safe fight in boxing." Two undefeated prospects were upset in what many saw as safe fights on promoter Bob Duffy's "Holiday Hits" card at the Roseland Ballroom in heart of Manhattan.
Heavyweight prospect Nagy Aguilera (10-1, 6 KOs) lost by way of second-round disqualification to journeyman Marcellus Brown (25-17-1, 21 KOs). After landing serious low blow in the second, Brown was given time to recover and retaliated by hitting Aguilera on the break. The foul fest continued when Aguilera also retaliated by intentionally hitting Brown with his head, and appeared to bust the journeyman's nose in the process. The ref quickly issued the DQ call.
In a bigger upset, highly regarded lightweight prospect Jorge Teron (22-1-1, 15 KOs), coming off an impressive August appearance on ShoBox, lost by way of a ten round majority decision to Aldo Valtierra (25-10, 13 KOs). The fight was close and fought at a heavy pace. The scores were 96-94, 95-94 and 95-95.
Another highly regarded prospect who recently by Lou DiBella, light heavyweight Will Rosinsky (3-0, 3 KOs), stopped Amador Acevedo (2-5, 2 KOs) in one.
