Knockout artist Jorge 'Destroyer' Melendez will defend his WBA Fedecaribe light middleweight title on Saturday, April 30, against Chad Greenleaf over eight rounds as the main event of 'Boxing Hot' to be held at Cancha Nilmarie Santini in Santurce, Puerto Rico.
"I do not know him but they say he's a good opponent, strong and comes forward. But I'm feeling good and happy to be the main event and I'm looking to get another knockout," said the boxer who is managed by Edwin Diaz.
Melendez, with a record of 17-2 and 17 knockouts, expects to have four fights in 2011 to push his ranking to a title shot in 2012.
"And we'll see if at the beginning of 2012, I get the chance to fight for a championship. I think I deserve a chance and I've have been maturing as a fighter," he said.
The schedule for Saturday will consist of 10 bouts, including a fight between Eric Cruz (9-5 and 9 KO's) and Tyler Ziolkowski (14-13 and 8 KO's) in a four round lightweight clash, while Miguel 'El Gallo' Marrero (2 -0) will be measured against Nelson Casanova (1-4) over four rounds at 128 lbs. Jack 'Kid' Narvaez (2-0) goes against Armando Adorno (0-1) at 118 for four-rounds, while Angel 'El Puma' Otero (1-1) faces Geraldo Adorno (0-3 ) over four at lightweight.
