Last weekend, Jorge Linares (41-3, 27KOs) defeated Anthony Crolla (31-5-3, 13KOs) to capture the WBA lightweight title at the Manchester Arena in the U.K. In the process he damaged his right hand during that twelve round bout.
Robert Diaz, head matchmaker for Golden Boy Promotions spoke to BoxingScene.com, and gave a status regarding the boxer's injury and recovery time.
"Jorge saw the doctor yesterday (Wednesday). He was given four-to-six weeks off to rest the hand. There's no fracture, there's no break, which is a good thing. He has to go back in four-to-six to see the doctor for clearance and then he can go back to regular activities," Diaz told BoxingScene.
Upon returning to the ring, Linares will likely have to face Crolla for a second time. There was a rematch clause that was held by Crolla, and his promoter Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Sport, coming into last week's fight. Crolla and Hearn intend to exercise that clause.
"Eddie and Crolla mentioned after the fight - that yes they wanted to exercise the rematch but of course I have to speak to Eddie to get a timetable. Hopefully it's February or March,''said Diaz.
