Former super featherweight champion Jorge Linares has stated that Carlos Hernandez turned down an offer to fight him in March in Venezuela. Hernandez's team wanted more money and more time to prepare for the contest. Linares' team is now looking at tapes of Francisco Lorenzo and Kevin Kelley. Linares said he even agreed to move up to lightweight to fight Hernandez.
"I would love to box against Hernandez. We are at a stage where we both have goals and I agreed to do the fight at 135 pounds because I wanted to history in boxing Venezuela. I must confess that I was surprised to see him reject the offer because of the money and a lack of time to prepare. We are all professionals and we must remain in the gym to be ready when the promoter presents us with a date," Linares said.
"With respect to money, I know my promoters offered a lot more because it's in Venezuela. I do not understand why they waited so long to say no. Regarding another potential opponent, my promoter, Akihiko Honda gave me videos of Francisco Lorenzo and Kevin Kelley, who are both former world champions. However, we are waiting to see whether they decide to take the fight or not."
