BoxingScene.com recently caught up with WBC lightweight champion Jorge Linares (40-3). The Venezuelan was last in action on October 10th when he stopped Ivan Cano (23-7) in four rounds.
Linares said that he is targeting an early 2016 ring return and revealed that his co-promoters would be sitting down soon to finalize his next fight.
"Golden Boy and Teiken should be getting together in early December to map out my next fight. I think it will be in late February or in March," said Linares.
One option that interests Linares is a unification bout with WBO champion Terry Flanagan. The Brit captured the title in July and followed that up with a knockout victory over Diego Magdaleno in October. He is scheduled to face Derry Mathews on February 13th in Liverpool.
"I would like that fight. Flanagan is a great fighter but I will fight anyone. I want unifications. I am looking for big fights on HBO or Showtime," Linares stated.
Another fight that has been talked about is a rematch with Kevin Mitchell. Linares stopped him in 10 rounds in May and Mitchell has repeatedly said that he wants a rematch. While a rematch isn't a priority for Linares, he said that he has no problem giving him one.
'If Mitchell keeps asking for a rematch I will give it to him. It isn't on the top of my list but if he wants it, why not? I will give it to him," Linares told BoxingScene.com.
