Jorge "Golden Boy" Linares is satisfied with his recent win over Jesus "Matador" Chavez in Tokyo. During a meeting with the Venezuelan media, the boxer said he will insist on a career goal of winning five titles in boxing to bring back to Venezuela, and also plans to begin a stronger support for the development of young talent.
"Winning a third world title in my career is one goal and winning five world titles is another major goal of mine, a dream that I have," Linares said. "We have many ideas and projects that have not yet been fully raised. We plan to help two boys in the amateurs, perhaps bring them to Japan to start at the professional level."
In his last fight, Chavez quit after four rounds with a claimed shoulder injury, but Linares is not so sure if there was an actual injury.
"I do not know if he was really injured or what, but the important thing is that he did not continue because it could have ended with an ugly, explosive knockout," Linares said. "We plan to rest for a month, and at that time we will see what we're going to do."
Linares will head to the United States in early December to begin training in Los Angeles for his next fight, which is going to be decided by his co-promoters Akihiko Honda and Golden Boy Promotions. Linares would rather not fight WBA lightweight champion Miguel Acosta, because they are countrymen, but he is willing to wait for the winner of Humberto Soto's defense of the WBC title against Urbano Antillon, which takes place on December 4.
"Let's wait for the winner of the fight between (Humberto) Soto and Urbano Antillon, and there lies the chance to go for the WBC world title. Although much has been said about a fight with Likar Ramos and Juan Diaz, we have no idea who our next opponent will be," Linares said.
"Regarding Miguel Acosta, I do not want to fight with another brother, a Venezuelan. If that fight is given to me, then we'll see, but it wont be something that I'll ask for or something that I plan to pursure."
