ALBERTO ANDRADA used to be a real prospect as an amateur. He had some pro fights and a detached retina stopped him, but he didn’t quit boxing. He started to train and teach. Today, at 68, he has worked in the corner of some true champions as Victor Emilio Galindez or Juan Martin Coggi, among others. And, by now, he is the trainer of Jorge Rodrigo Barrios, who is working for his fight with Janos Nagy on for March 24 at Las Vegas.
BARRIOS is WORKING in La Pampa. Andrada make a brief round trip to Buenos Aires and told BoxingScene: “Barrios is in good condition, I must say round 7 or 8 points. We will arrive in 10 points for the Nagy fight. He has not real problems with the scale. As a matter of fact, he made breakfast, lunch, teatime and dinner. Of course, he eats with moderation, but the weight is not a problem for him. He takes no dairy milk and things like that, but he is Okay, absolutely”.
ONE DAY IN THE GYM means about 8 rounds of sparring, and around 12 or 13 rounds in total counting speed bag, punching ball, rope and shadow boxing. “We will make around 10 sparring partner rounds a day, average, but a week before the fight the number of rounds will decrease”, says Andrada.
AND WHAT ABOUT NAGY? “We know him very well. Don’t forget he defeated twice Pablo Chacón, who is a very good boxer. Nagy is left-handed, has a good punch, he likes fo fight, but he has problems with his boxing, has his own limits. As all people know, Barrios is a brawler, a man who doesn’t care about the opponents hands. It will be his first fight at Las Vegas, he is looking for a bout with Marco Antonio Barrera and he knows perfectly he must win and convince the public. We all respect very much Nagy, we don´t forget his victories over Chacón, but Barrios will be at his best that night, willing to fight, to win and to shine. In few words, he will be more dangerous than ever”.
