Jorge Barrios Ring Return Being Discussed For August

BoxingScene.com had been advised that former champion Jorge Barrios (49-4, 35KOs) may return in the month of August on a Telefutura televised card. Barrios is working his way to a lightweight title shot.

After winning twice in 2009, Barrios was involved in a tragic traffic accident on January 24 in the city of Mar del Plata, which is south of Buenos Aires. He lost control of his BMW SUV and crashed into several other vehicles. One those vehicles hit several pedestrians. Six people were injured, and a 20-year-old pregnant woman was killed.

Barrios went through a series of legal hurdles and took several tests to prove that he was sober at the time of the accident. He recently resigned with Golden Boy Promotions and plans to move forward with his career.
