Jorge Arce, who last Saturday in Las Vegas captured the WBO super bantamweight title by knocking out previously undefeated Wilfredo Vazquez Jr. of Puerto Rico in the tweflth round, has taken the claim as being the first Mexican boxer to win world championships in four weight divisions.
"I warned the world, experts, journalists and told Vazquez Jr. and his team, who belittled me - but that only motivated me more. Last Saturday, nobody was going to stop me," Arce said, and expanded, "It wasn't easy. Vazquez is a great fighter, young, strong, brave, but that night I brought heart to spare. I am a true Mexican warrior. I am always motivated."
Arce began to meet his promotional commitments and appear on some television programs on Tuesday in Mexico City. At the end of the week, the Sinaloa state government, along with the city of Ahome, will make a special reception for Arce, with a popular festival which will pay homage to one of the spoiled children of Los Mochis.
The weekend Arce will accompany and support his brother, Francisco, who fights in Los Mochis for the interim-bantamweight title of the World Association (WBA) against Hugo Ruiz in the Zanfer promoted event - "Mochis vs Mochis" which is going to air on Azteca 7 .
"My brother has a chance. I gave him the example, and now he is more motivated and he will enter the ring well prepared and become a warrior. I place a lot of trust in my brother and I have no doubt that he is going to be crowned world champion and the Arce family will continue celebrating," he said.
"I am very thankful to God for all he that has given to me. I thank my family, my wife, my children, my parents, brothers, my friends, the teams at Top Rank and Zanfer, my promoter Fernando Beltran and especially all of the fans who always believed in me and were supporting me."
