As previously reported on BoxingScene.com, Roy Jones Jr. (53-5, 39 KOs) is looking at a possible drop from light heavyweight to super middleweight. Apparently Jones wants to eventually fight Jermain Taylor - if Taylor beats Carl Froch for the WBC super middleweight title on April 25.
The first opponent on Jones' 168-pound hit-list is another Florida native, former champion Jeff Lacy (24-2, 17 KOs). If Jones fights and beats Lacy, the win will be a measuring stick on how well he would do against Taylor. Last November, Taylor won a twelve round decision over Lacy.
Lacy returns to action on April 10 in Tampa, Florida. The opponent will be Otis Griffin. If Lacy beats Griffin, Jones would like to fight him as early as June. Lacy has answered the call and would love to have an all-Florida battle with Jones in June. He thinks the fight could happen in Tampa.
"Let's do it. He'll probably be here sitting in the audience of my fight and after my fight is over with, we can do it. We can make the plans. Roy Jones, let's do it," Lacy told The Tampa Tribune.
