MONTEBELLO, Calif. - Junior bantamweight Jonathan Torres was winless in his first five pro bouts.

While his career had no direction, he continued to plug away.

He is glad he did as his career has found momentum.

Torres won a hard fought six round unanimous decision over Jose Toribio at the Quiet Cannon Friday night in this Los Angeles suburb.

Torres improves to 6-5-1, 1 KO and has now won his last four bouts in a row. Toribio falls to 6-4, 1 KO.

Toribio pressed the action during the first half of the fight. His aggression allowed him to land more punches over Torres during that stretch.

By the fifth round, Toribio began to slow down, allowing Torres to be the aggressor during this point in the fight.

Both fighters had their moments in the sixth round, but Torres dropped Toribio with a left hook to the head about midway through the round. To his credit, Toribio stood up and fought back, connecting with a series of right hands until the final bell sounded.

All three judges scored the bout in favor of Torres, 58-55, 57-56 and 59-55.

Junior lightweights Jarett Jeter and Manuel Romero fought to a four round majority decision draw The action was mostly fought on the inside from beginning to end. The southpaw Romero (2-4-3, 1 KO) seemed to utilize his awkwardness in his favor during the first two rounds. Jeter (4-0-1, 1 KO) was busier and landed the more telling blows during the final two rounds. One judge scored the bout 39-37 for Jeter, while the other two judges scored the bout 38-38.

Junior lightweight Kevin Valle Hernandez (2-0) won a four round unanimous decision over Jesse Adame. Hernandez dropped Adame (2-13-1) with a right hand in the first round. All three judges scored the bout in favor of Hernandez, 40-35, 40-35, and 39-36.
