Super bantamweight Jonathan Oquendo (19-2, 12KOs) is closing in on a WBO title shot. He returns against Felipe Cordova on January 22 in the headliner of the event "Night of Champions" from the Bayamón Correctional Complex. Oquendo has built a good streak since being stopped by Juan Manuel Lopez in 2008. Oquendo, ranked at number three with the WBO, wants to face the winner of countryman Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.'s potential defense against Jorge Arce on May 7.

"I think Vazquez is a great fighter and don't see any way that Arce can beat him. Whether or not that fight [with Vazquez] happens or doesn't happen, my manager [Orlando Pinero] will let me know," Oquendo told Carlos Gonzalez.
