British lightweight champion Jon Thaxton (33-7, 18KOs) has hist back at Commonwealth champion Amir Khan (15-0, 12KOs), sending warning to the 21-year-old star - he can't keep running.
On Tuesday, Khan issued quotes to the media letting Thaxton know he was on the hunt and ready to take him on. The British Boxing Board of Control has appointed Khan as the mandatory to Thaxton's title and ruled the fight has to take place before April. Khan returns on Feb. 2 at the ExCel arena in London, likely against EBU champion Yuri Romanov from Belarus.
"Khan will have to face me at some time, and when he does I'll be ready. He can't always run and hide," Thaxton told The Mirror . "I knew that when I started out at lightweight I'd have to punch my way to the top because I'd get no favors, and that's the way it's been. But I've not done too bad for a 33-year-old. I believe I can beat Khan. He's still young and inexperienced. In a year or two he would probably beat me. I'll concentrate on my training and let the powers that be sort out my next fight."
