European lightweight champ Jon Thaxton says UK rival Amir refused to face him the past, and he won't face him in the near future either. Responding to media demands for a possible fight, Thaxton doesn't think Khan will come near him and says the 21-year-old would have to be ‘‘suicidal’’ to get in the ring with him right now. Fresh from the first loss of his career, Khan returns on December 6 in Birmingham.

“He’s got to rebuild his career after getting knocked out in the first round against Breidis Prescott in his last fight. To fight me would be suicidal," Thaxton told The Daily Star. "Whose career would you rather have? Khan’s, who has just been knocked out in one, or Jon Thaxton’s, who is now a European champion?"

“Our careers are going in different directions. His is on the way down. He will rebuild. It’s not how you fall but how you rise after it, and it depends on how he comes back. We’ll just have to see, but I don’t know. He took a heavy blow and he’s been down a few times.”
