Amnuaysil Association, Prachachuen, Bangkok, Thailand - WBC Muay Thai World Champion Jomthong Chuwattana registered the most impressive win of his boxing career this afternoon in Thailand when he defeated experienced Filipino Ronald Pontillas by unanimous decision.
Pontillas came into the fight with a 15-4-1 record and a reputation as a KO artist. He began throwing leather right from the opening exchanges and got through with a couple of hard right hands.
Jomthong was the aggressor throughout and walked forwards, using the jab to set up his powerful left hand and driving Pontillas up against the ropes and peppering him with short, clubbing punches.
Pontillas never stopped looking for a ninth career KO but as the fight wore on Jomthong was able to time him with increasing ease and the Filipino found himself swinging into fresh air as the Thai ducked and dived to stay out of harm's way.
This was the second fight in a row in which Jomthong has beaten a more experienced Filipino opponent and the first successful defence of the OPBF super featherweight belt he won last November. The WBC is the only major sanctioning body to offer belts in Muay Thai and boxing and Jomthong remains on track to potentially win a world title in both disciplines.
In the co main event veteran Sod Kokietgym improved to 61-2-1 with a decision win over Filipino journeyman Randy Megrino who drops to 12-13-2 after his fourth straight loss at the hands of a Thai fighter.
